Oceanside Volleyball Club
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should my athlete join the Oceanside Volleyball Club (OVC)?
At OVC, players don’t just join a volleyball team they become part of a community. Our goal is to help athletes grow both on and off the court through teamwork, skill development, and community involvement.
What makes OVC special?
We’re a non-profit, volunteer-driven club built on the values of commitment, development, inclusiveness, integrity, passion, respect, and fun.
Our certified coaches and dedicated parent volunteers create a positive, supportive environment where every athlete can thrive both as a player and as a person.
What opportunities are available for OVC athletes?
- Tournaments & Nationals: Athletes have the opportunity to attend tournaments across B.C. and even compete at Nationals in cities across Canada.
- Fundraising: Team fundraising helps offset club fees, making participation more affordable for families, while also supporting travel and event costs.
- Volleyball BC Paid Opportunities: Athletes can earn money and gain experience through Volleyball BC beach volleyball programs during the summer months.
- Volunteer Opportunities: Players are provided the opportunity to give back to the community by helping with Train & Play sessions for younger athletes or participating in local volunteer initiatives that strengthen our OVC family spirit.
Who coaches at OVC?
All OVC teams are led by certified, experienced coaches who are dedicated to athlete development. They serve as technical instructors and positive role models, promoting teamwork, resilience, and a love for the game.
What programs does OVC offer?
- Train & Play (Grades 5–7): Designed for younger athletes who are new to volleyball. The focus is on fun, fundamentals, and teamwork.
- Club Teams (14U and up): Competitive teams selected through tryouts. The season typically runs from December to May and includes practices, tournaments, Provincials, and Nationals (if selected).
When is the club volleyball season?

Club volleyball, in conjunction with Volleyball BC, starts with tryouts in late November, early December (depending on age category). Club season typically runs until early May where teams finish off with the Provincials, with some continuing on to Nationals.
What are the time commitments for athletes?
Club teams generally practice three times per week and participate in 6–8 tournaments throughout the season. Some travel may be required for off-Island events.
How much does it cost to play with OVC?
As a non-profit organization, our fees cover essentials such as gym rentals, uniforms, coach education, tournament registrations, and equipment. Our Directors and Coaches are volunteers who dedicate countless hours to the athletes.
Fundraising helps offset team fees and reduce costs for families, and we also connect families with financial assistance programs to make volleyball accessible to all.
How can parents get involved?
Parent involvement is a big part of what makes OVC special!
We encourage parents to volunteer in a variety of ways, such as team management, board members, scorekeeping, event coordination, fundraising, or helping at tournaments.
These contributions keep our club strong, help reduce costs, and build the community spirit that defines OVC. We also welcome parents who would like to learn how to coach. We can provide them with training and reimbursement for coaching education.
