Rod Pick – Head Coach 16U

Rod has coached various levels of school and Club volleyball, both girls and boys, for over 16 years. Rod coached and sat on the board as President with Comox Valley Volleyball Club from 2000 to 2009. He moved around with his job and started with Parksville Volleyball Club (now OVC) in 2020, focusing on developing the younger age group through Train and Play Programs.

He has attended Nationals 3 times with his teams, twice in Calgary and once in Edmonton. In 2024, he became certified as an Advanced Development Indoor Coach through Volleyball Canada.

Rod enjoys watching his athletes progress and grow in confidence and skill development on the court. More importantly, Rod encourages them to take the things they learn about themselves as an athlete and working in a team environment and apply them to the outside world. He served as the Technical Director for OVC in 2024, is married to Kari, OVC Eagles President, and has two daughters currently playing Club volleyball.

Don Couzens – Head Coach 14U

Don and his family moved to Qualicum Beach in the summer of 2025 after retiring from the Royal Canadian Air Force after 29+ years of service.

He holds the NCCP Advanced Development Coach certification, and has head coached 12U-18U girls and boys teams in Ontario and Manitoba. Don has also been an assistant coach with the Royal Military College of Canada’s Men’s University Volleyball team and the Canadian Armed Forces Military CISM National teams. He is a qualified, professional and motivated coach with strong people, organizational and leadership skills.

Don believes that volleyball should be educational and fun, with simple goals of being a better player at the end of the season than you were at the beginning, being a contributing member of a team, and having a desire to continue playing at whatever level is next for you. If you haven’t achieved these things, then you have wasted an amazing opportunity. Volleyball isn’t an individual sport, if you can’t be part of a team, and include everyone in your activities, then team sports aren’t likely for you.

Katie Mason – Head Coach 14U

Katie Mason brings a wealth of experience to the coaching world with a strong background in volleyball. She played for Ballenas Secondary, PVC (Oceanside Volleyball Club), BC Summer Games and the Canada Summer Games teams, as well as a very successful four years at VIU.

She knows the game inside and out. Her passion for the sport has been reignited through watching her daughters discover their love of volleyball. Coaching is not a new venture for Katie; she has previously coached PVC club teams and holds a volleyball development certification (she is also a softball coach in our community). She is loving being back in the gym, excited to work with new athletes, and to teach them the foundational skills of volleyball. Her energy and expertise make her a great addition to the coaching team.

Aubrey Rayner – Assistant Coach 14U

Hello everyone, my name is Aubrey Rayner. I am currently the head coach of a 15U girls team at Oceanside Volleyball Club. I started coaching with OVC in 2023 with the Train and Play program for girls grades 6 and 7. During the 2023 club season, I was the assistant coach for the 14U girls team.

Volleyball has always been a passion of mine and I love helping young athletes discover a love for the sport. My goal as a coach is to create an environment where players can grow their skills, build confidence, and reach their full potential both on and off the court. I’m excited to share my passion for volleyball with our athletes and see where my coaching journey will take me!
